Water activities you didn’t expect in the UAE

You might forget you’re in the desert.
Beach days and pool clubs in Dubai are great, no argument there. But that’s only a small part of what the city and the rest of the UAE have to offer.

There’s a whole range of water activities that feel unexpected for a place surrounded by desert. Surfing, jet skis, paddle boards, and even deep scuba diving are all part of the scene here.

We’ve put together a selection of spots where you can try something new, switch up your routine, and maybe find something you’ll want to come back to.

The world’s deepest pool at 60 metres, built like a submerged city you can actually explore. Inside there are flooded rooms, corridors, props, even small details like arcade machines, shelves, and street elements that make it feel less like a pool and more like an abandoned space underwater.

You can move between levels, swim through doorways, play around with objects, shoot hoops or just explore freely. It works both for beginners and certified divers, with guided sessions available, so you don’t need a license to try it for the first time.

The Middle East’s first whitewater rafting, kayaking and surf destination, set in the desert at the base of Jebel Hafeet. It’s one of the few places in the region where you get actual rapids with controlled flow, not just flat water.

The park has artificial whitewater channels with adjustable intensity, so you can go from beginner runs to stronger currents, plus a separate surf wave for training and short sessions. Everything is structured, with guided runs and equipment provided, so you don’t need prior experience to try it.

It’s more of an activity park than a single experience, with rafting, kayaking, surf training and even zipline options in one area, so you can mix different formats in one visit.

A water sports provider offering a full range of activities, including jet ski, flyboard, e-foil, wakeboarding, parasailing and paddleboarding, plus banana boat rides, fishing trips and yacht rentals. It’s set up for both quick sessions and more technical rides, depending on how far you want to go.

The location at Dubai Harbour gives you open water with skyline views, and most sessions are guided, so you can try things like e-foil or flyboard without prior experience. Equipment is provided, and the setup is straightforward, so you can switch between activities without overplanning.

Snorkeling around Snoopy Island with clear water, coral spots and a good chance to see turtles, reef fish and sometimes small rays. The island sits close to shore, so even beginners can reach the main areas without long boat rides. Visibility is usually better here than in Dubai, which makes it one of the most reliable spots for underwater views in the UAE.

Most people go through Sandy Beach Hotel, which gives direct access to the reef and works as the main base for equipment rental, lockers and boat trips. You can swim out from the beach or take a short ride closer to the deeper coral sections around the island.
